Some people seem as if they can remember anything. They don't write down phone numbers, and they don't take notes in class. It's like any information they take in, just remains in place, easy to recall. If you struggle with remembering things, it can be easy to become jealous of this ability. Fortunately, you can learn how to train your memory simply by implementing these 5 techniques.

  1. Repeat Repeat Repeat

It may be boring, but repetition is a great way to commit things to memory. Think about learning your times tables. You didn't learn some magical trick. You simply repeated them and drilled until you could recite them from memory. This was the best way to learn them. Likewise, if you are trying to learn dry facts and figures to day, the best way to do so is to repeat them to yourself multiple times and to write them down multiple times.

  1. Read Summarize Repeat

Rather than reading an entire chapter or section, and then attempting to summarize what you have learned. Try summarizing after each paragraph or other logical breaking point in what you are reading. You will be more likely to retain facts that you learn and summarize within a few minutes than facts that you don't review for an hour or more.

  1. Get Plenty of Exercise

Intensive exercise increases the levels of protein in your blood, thereby increasing your memory capacity. In fact the differences between the memorization skills of exercisers versus non exercisers is quite substantial. Research studies have been performed measuring test results of individuals who exercised immediately before a test and those who did not. Those who exercised did significantly better than those who did not.

  1. Challenge Your Brain to a Game

Puzzles and games are like weights and treadmills for you brain. The more you engage yourself in these activities, the stronger your brain function becomes. This is especially true when it comes to improving your memory capacity. Your brain develops what is known as plasticity as you learn new things, challenge your memory capabilities, and take part in exercises that require logic and reasoning. This means that playing games such as word puzzles, chess, hidden object pictures, and even a limited number of video games can greatly improve your memory.

  1. Make Connections

When you are trying to learn something new, you can often memorize it more quickly if you can draw a connection between the knew thing that you are learning and something that you already know. For example, if you are learning about a historical figure, and see that this historical figure has many things in common with another historical figure about whom you are very familiar, emphasize those connections. Remind your self that certain traits of this person are nearly identical to the traits of the previous figure.
